The Foreign Secretaries of Bhutan and India signed the Memorandum of Understanding on establishment of Nalanda University as an international institution of learning.
Bhutan’s Foreign Secretary, Yeshey Dorji and his Indian counterpart, Sujatha Singh signed the MoU.
The MoU was signed in the presence of the head of states of the two countries, His Majesty the King and President Pranab Mukherjee.
With the signing, Bhutan will collaborate with 10 other countries to develop Nalanda University as an international institution of learning.

A news release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the inter-governmental Memorandum of Understanding on it came into force on October 10, 2013 during the 8th East Asia Summit held in Brunei Darussalam. Including Bhutan, 11 countries have now signed the MoU.
As an international place of learning, the Nalanda University in Bihar will bring together the brightest students from all countries and provide them the means needed for the pursuit of intellectual, philosophical, historical and spiritual studies.
The other objective is to build an Asian Community of Learning by strengthening regional awareness.
